When we last wrote about the Mortal Online MMORPG it was in Open Beta with launch pending. The open beta for Mortal Online began on February 1, 2010 and was scheduled to release in march. News came today that technical issues are forcing the massively multiplayer online role playing game to delay for another month.

Henrik Nystrom said: “…We have been working very hard day and night now for some years and finally started to see the goal and release, we just have to put another gear in before we are going to release Mortal Online. Thank you for your feedback and support that helped us to take this important decision. We will announce a final release date at a later time.”

We wrote before about 38 Studios developing the Copernicus MMORPG with personal funding from baseball great Curt Schilling. The now retired Red Sox player has stated that he has already spent most of his savings on 38 Studios (formerly known as Green Monster Games) saying “I have put the majority of the money I’ve earned in my life on the table. If I make another financial investment, I will have crossed the point of no return from a personal investment and company standpoint.”

Schilling should have earned over $100 million during his professional baseball career. An avid massively multiplayer online role playing game fan, he has thrown himself full on into the company as it’s founder and chairman. In May 2009 Big Huge Games (created Rise of Nations) was aquired by 38 Studios. They were developing a RPG named Prject Mercury. He is still confident saying: “I have no doubt I am on the cusp of creating a multi-million dollar company and the only failure scenario is a quit. Quitting is not an option,”. Shilling recently spoke on the MMO panel at PAX East sharing his experience. EA Games has announced a publishing deal with 38 Studios as well………………………………………………….

The Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning massively multiplayer online role playing game from Mythic Entertainment has announced that it has eliminated the fee to download the game making the client now free. This is a welcome change for potential WAR subscribers.

There is also no time limit on the WAR Free Trial and upgrading is now even easier.

We have followed Stargate Worlds from the beginning, to the end and finally bankruptcy. But it isn’t over yet for Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment….oh no…they still have to sell off all of their assets. The first person shooter Stargate Resistance has been sold to startup Fresh Start (surprisingly the company includes many former Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment employees). Fresh Start will receive all of the CME assets. CME still has many liabilities and lawsuits against it……………..

Secret Builders is a virtual world focused on education of children. The California based company opened the service in December 2008 (founded in 2007) and has grown to 400,000 unique visitors a month. Secret Builders announced today that it has raised $2.3 million dollars in funding. (totoal of $4 million raised)

Secret Builders recently added on a white-label license for brands to provide their own virtual word for kids. More than 800 schools across 190 countries are currently participating.

The Secret Builders is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role playing game that allows for micro transactions and the purchase of virtual items. The game is targeted for the 8-12 age group with some kids as young as 5 participating. The game is flash and browser based and includes minigames and 2-D characters.

We have written many times about Perfect World and their games. Chinese based game developer Perfect World Co., Ltd. announced today that they have acquired Japanese online game operator C&C Media (developer of ATLUS). It looks like the purchase price was about $21 million.

This is a huge move for Perfect World. They are looking to quickly expand their global reach and add more games than their already popular Jade Dynasty, Kung Foo!, Ether Saga Online, Battle of the Immortals, and Legend of Martial Arts, Zhu Xian……………………

N.E.O. Online is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role playing game from SONOV and PlayOMG. The NEO MMORPG allows your character to transform into a monster, own pets, change occupations and skills, player vs player combat, and more.

They announced that a group of hackers known as FairX have attempted to blackmail them threatening to crack all games developed by PlayOMG. The hackers belong to the Fairlighters guild and claim to have cracked over 1,300 games. The hackers have contacted PlayOMG staff making threats and attempting to negotiate.

NEO Online is apologizing in advance for any interruptions that may result and will compensate players as necessary.
