Myst Online is Back & Free – URU Live Again

Myst Online is back. Cyan Worlds has raised enough money to open a first phase open source Myst Online: URU Live server. This is a free version of the Myst Online massively multiplayer online role playing game with no subscription or client download cost.

MO:UL includes Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, Uru: To D’ni, and Uru: The Path Of The Shell. Fans can create and host their own URU servers and worlds.

You can download the installer here although the Account Creation page has crashed due to high demand.

Free Realms Reaches 8 Million Registered Accounts

It was only in July of 2009 that Free Realms had reached 5 million accounts. Sony Online Entertainment has now announced that the free to play Free Realms massively multiplayer online role playing game has now reached 8 million registered accounts.

President of SOE John Smedley said: "Free Realms is more than just a virtual world for our players; it is a portal for imagination. A place where players transform their house into a jumping maze for friends to compete or a petting zoo that boasts all their pets. Our job as developers is to listen to and predict what they want and give them the tools that inspire and compel them to share their experiences with eight million others."

We wrote earlier that Cryptic announced 1 million accounts for Star Trek Online.

That number was actually misleading as Cryptic ment to say they have 1 million accounts for ALL of their games combined (including Champions Online)

Atrox Queen Egg Sells for Astonishing $69,696 USD in Entropia Universe Planet Calypso

The sale of virtual items is big business these days. On Planet Calypso a virtual Egg (that is right an egg) known as the Atrox Queen Egg sold for $69,696.00 USD. The virtual egg was sold by John Jacobs (NEVERDIE) in a public auction to David Storey (DEATHIFIER). Jacobs had last purchased the Atrox Queen virtual egg for $10,000 USD in the year 2006.

Chief Executive Officer Marco Behrmann of the First Planet Company (publisher of the Planet Calypso MMORPG) said "The sale of the Atrox Queen Egg is another example of the incredibly unique world and economy we offer in our game. While you don’t need thousands of dollars, or even tens of dollars to play Planet Calypso, it’s sales like these that truly separate our virtual world from any other on the planet".

Fallout: New Vegas is a role playing game from Obsidian Entertainment and Namco Bandai. It features the Gamebryo engine and will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC. Runes of Magic Fall of the Demon Lord Patch 2.1.6 & New HD Trailer

The Runes of Magic free massively multiplayer online role playing game recently released Patch 2.1.6 Fall of the Demon Lord. This latest update includes a Demon Stronghold 12 player raid.

Other features include open combat in Blodbath Valley, Elite Elven Skills for levels 45 and 50, New quests, a new Hidden Treasure Minigame, Flower Festival Valentine's Day event, and more.

Frogster Interactive has also released a new trailer for the expansion featuring the Demon Lord Sirloth.

The Secret World – HD Trailer: Just Another Zombie Shooter?

Funcom has finally revealed the first full trailer for The Secret World massively multiplayer online role playing game. The question: Is this just another Zombie shooter?

More information and video will be revealed at GDC. Ragnar Tornquist Producer and Director avoids the word zombie calling them "walking dead" and the trailer pointedly avoids the word but that is what the trailer is about. We have written frequently about the Sims. Today is the 10 year anniversary from when the original game The Sims first launched on February 4, 2000 by Electronic Arts. This was follwed by Sims 2, 3 and other variations.

The latest version The Sims 3 quickly sold 3.7 million copies and created a Sims 3 iphone app

Electronic Arts is offering some free gifts and promotions to celebrate their anniversary. The gifts are a virutal picture frames, a virtual pink flamingo lawn ornament, and a virtual outfit.

We wrote that it was foolish for Hi-Rez studios to compete with Star Trek Online with a launch date for Global Agenda one day before. But they did it anyways.

The Global Agenda MMOFPS launched with 5 different conquest zones available. Global Agenda: Conquest is PVP and all new players will have access until March 3, 2010. After that point they will have to pay a subscription fee for the PVP combat.

Star Trek Online: 1 Million Accounts As of February 2nd Launch & Guinness Record Attempt

The Star Trek Online MMORPG from Cryptic Studios and Atari launched on February 2, 2010. Gamers gathered around select Gamestops at 12:00 am in order to purchase the game as soon as it went on sale. Initial unconfirmed reports indicate 1 million accounts have been created at official web sites. Star Trek Online will soon be increasing the in-game server capacity as a result.

To further celebrate the launch Atari and Namco Bandai are attempting to organize a Guinness Book Record by organizing the largest gathering of fans in Star Trek Characters costumes at the London Millenium Bridge on February 14, 2010 at 1:00 pm. Best dressed characters will receive lifetime subscriptions.

We at Online Massively Multiplayer.com have received over 160 (one hundred and sixty) comments complaining about the Runes of Magic download, installation, and patch process. The Runes of Magic download and patch process sucks. It is painfully slow and a source of frustration and anger for many who want to play the otherwise great free-to-play Runes of Magic MMORPG.

In fact, Runes of Magic is our #1 Top 10 Free MMORPG. But the patching & upgrading process is particularly terrible. Your potential solution of using BitRaider Streaming has not been implemented and does not fix the overall problem. You are loosing customers and turning away willing gamers with this horrible failure of a process.

Your players are actually turning to torrents, file sharing, and download sites and many of these are being infected with viruses and trojans. This is a great disservice to them. Below are a few comments from our readers highlighting that point...........
