Well this is a pretty bitter Valentine’s Day Surprise. Activision-Blizzard has announced layoffs for hundreds of employees. The news came after a fourth quarter loss of $286 million. Some studios have been shut down completely. Those hardest hit were Prototype, Tony Hawk, Guitar Heroes and Luxoflux (closed).
The statement from Activision was pretty heartless even refusing to refer to the employees as people:
“Activision Publishing continually evaluates its resources to ensure that they are properly matched against its products and strategic goals,…realigning our resources to better reflect our slate and the market opportunities.”
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to those former employees and their families. I mean really? Doesn’t Activision have a heart? (just a joke to try and cheer you guys up)
