It was not a very Merry Christmas for Metaplace. The free MMORPG builder Metaplace has announced that they will be shutting their doors forever on January 1, 2010 at 11:59 p.m.
Game designer Raph Koster (creator of the Metaplace MMORPG) said that lack of revenue at Metaplace Inc forced the shutdown. Most of the studio staff have been laid off for the holidays (cold dude).
Billing has been turned off with refunds for all purchases in December. All assets will be deleted so they should be exported and backed up.
Really the downfall of this virtual world was the terrible graphics and too much competition. Still it is sad to see this type of innovative and daring project go under. For updates see the Metaplace twitter: http://twitter.com/Metaplace
