If you have played the popular Runes of Magic then you know it takes forever to download, install, and update.
This was a major problem particularly with the free to play Runes of Magic MMORPG reaching 1 Million Players.
As you can imagine there have been a lot of complaints about the download, install, and update process.
But it looks like Frogster America, Inc may have finally headed my advice and solved the problem. By using BitRaider, Runes of Magic will stream the download process allowing players to start more quickly. Only the needed parts of the game will download in the background with additional content downloading unseen.
Frogster Chief Executive Officer Lars Koschin hopes to reduce the process to under five minutes. The hope is that this will bring even more players into the game and overcome that first hurdle. It looks like it will be a few weeks until the new download process is available.

Well, they better solve the lag problem as well. So far, Frogster’s cleansed their hands and said that it was the user’s ISP at fault.
There were some possible ways to get around the problem, but it was too taxing on the players who just wanted to play a good game.

I’ve spent an afternoon longer then I would like downloading this, for a 3.4gig file it went suprisingly fast, that’s not my issue, Like hundreds of others, I had CRC problems with the rar, and numerous Retry Abort Ignore messages with the 4 part file.
Seems to me like Frogster is just some small time company who clearly has no experience with gamers,
You’d think such sever problems they have been having since it’s release would have been fixed by now? no. They simply don’t care and would rather point the finger at you, the user, instead of their crap programmers.
I will now delete my ROM file that now after hours of fixing, I finnaly got it patched and ready to go, just crashes abnormally, Ironic how I can play any game out there to date, but not this one.
Frogster, I hope one of you eventually see’s this post and does something about it, realize your errors.
For now i’ll go back and play EQ 2, A company who will bend over backwards for you, Sony.
Small time companies like Frog will never get big with crap like this happening.
P.S: Sorry to sound like a rant, but it is, quite upset about this wasting my bandwidth 3 times now, and numerous hours I wont get back.

The game is not bad for free BUT you could spend a large part of your time just trying to get the game to run with downloading, updating and patching.
Frogster don’t even bother put the latest binaries up on their site – so if you spend hours to download the binaries you have to spend hours again to patch them. They just released new content- Elven Prophecies – but they still have the old binaries for download. Go figure.
Sheer mismanagement, after all I’m sure they don’t get server bandwidth for free, so this has to be increasing their costs, and driving away would be players.
You can probably find many other FREE games out there that are just as good or even better, and do not have this problem.
My advice is to spend your time on some other game.
After all you could probably download 2-3 other free games in the time it takes to download Runes of Magic, patch, retry patching and downloading again from scratch (if something goes wrong – which does seem to happen since the game doesn’t appear to do enough validation).

This game is really pissing me off it took like 18 hours to dl the 5.8 gb file i’ve installed it and now it seems as if it has to download a million more files and install them all after the game is already installed. I’ve been waiting over 4 hours now and its still not fucking done yet, I’ve already lost interest in this game I don’t even want to play it now.

The problem I’m having…
I get past the download and then the installation, doesn’t take much time at all, maybe 15minutes for those two things. I patch for “Fall of the Demonlord” and while I’m patching for “Elven Prophicy” I get some type of file problem. I tried fixing it by changing the file to one that does work, but then it just goes into a continues patch of the same file for like 6 hours. I don’t know how to fix this problem, I give up on this stupid game and screw the people who made it, I hope they all burn in hell, or at least learn how to config files correctly!

The game does take a while to download, I have 3gig memory ram and still takes a long time. But that doen’t bother me. The game is very good, just like World of Warcraft.
My problem is that when I start the game, I have to wait for the updates and then I should then to be able to select Start Game. But that the problem, it just keeps updating then restarting then going back to updating. The game will not load up! I have uninstalled the game then deleted all of the files and reinstalled with new the software and the latest files.
Still I have the same problems. The game won’t load up.
What can I do?

I read up on a lot of these posts after my run in with RoM, to be honnest, the game sucks, another MMo that takes way too long to accomplish anything fun in the game.
Not to mention, Having to spend money to get cool items.

I did finally get the game to work, after purchasing new RAM, no more CRC errors, but all that BS and finally able to play only to be disapointed.

Yeh it does download / patch eventually..be patient, its because each update isnt consolidated or archived, it adds each patch bit by bit by..anyway, its worth the download

RoM have been installing itself for the past 26 hours. I had no less than 122 errors (which the officials gm’s on its forums say to ignore ‘em and carry on). And it still has about 7-9 hours. Now during this time, I’ve downloaded approximately 55 GB of pr0n, which took about 5 hours. Yet the installation of RoM still continues. Probably this game won’t even go beyond my expectations considering the amount of time to INSTALL it ( and i still have to wait for the updates)… What surprises me it’s the size of this shitty game..2.57 Gb..in 26 hours…You gotta be shitting me!

completed. Then when i hit LAUNCH! Then BOOM!
