Runescape maker Jagex released a statement from CEO Mark Gerhard apologizing for pre-roll video advertisments that pissed off players.
Gerhard also apologized for bad communication which has been the downfall of so many other MMORPGs.

Of course the pre-roll video ads only showed up for Runescape players stopped playing. Jagex has now removed the video ads from Runescape. In attempt to atone for their sins, Gerhard apologized, made some excuses, and announced the return of Development Diaries. The confusing thing is that they will replace Behind the Scenes, so isn’t that the same amount of communication instead of more?

Another major problem has been the continual and relentless prompts to upgrade to a paid Runescape membership and constantly touting the benefits when many players just want to play the free game. Gerhard says sorry for this too and calls for an “era of new openness”. We will see if he is able to follow through or not.
