We wrote at the end of July that The Chronicles of Spellborn would be re-released as a free MMORPG. This was largely because TCOS developers are bankrupt and their subscription model did not work.
The re-release of The Chronicles of Spellborn MMORPG as a F2P is scheduled for 2010 but will the game fail with the free-to-play model as well?
An MMORPG Without New Content Will Fail Wether F2P or Not
The reason I say this is because in a recent blog post by David Historian DeWald Community Manager stated that as the game is being re-developed the current model with subscriptions will also be free to play. While this could be a good idea it also speaks of desperation and the fact that no upgrades or patches will be offered until the new version is out does not seem likely to attract scores of new players as the game developers most likely will hope. I mean, for goodness sake it has The Runes of Magic to compete with. Also Acclaim has not updated the Chronicles of Spellborn web site in quite a long time either which is always a bad sign. Well, to be quite frank, the only reason i wanted to have a peek about Tcos is because of Within Temptation music. I am quite sad for the developers because i know how hard it is to create a AAA game, be it MMORPG is up the ante..
I agree with you, Runes of Magic is a wonderfully game and rich, i’ve never played WoW..
I am waiting for Diablo III, Guild Wars 2, AION, Star Wars old Republic.. so i think they tried their best 9have they? i am sure it’s more of the subscription and money problems.. if they went as F2P the first time, they might not have gone bankrupt) but they should give up as by the time it will be ready, other game will have lots of more content and other new ones might be better, graphically.
Well, if they can polish their game.. is it worth the RoI?
My 2 Cents, even when i hate to see people working hard and failing.. it’s a rude competition out there..
