A great game can overcome a lot. But the DarkFall Online web site makes a bad first impression.

1. Make the Design Wider and Centered – The Darkfall web site is only 750 pixels wide. That means that it takes up a very small portion of the screen. This isn’t 1980. Most people have larger monitors and larger resolutions. Almost no one is running 800×600 monitor resolution. Make it at least 1000 pixels wide and center it.

2. You should actually update your web site – Put new news on the home page. Do not just link to your forum. Or at least get an RSS feed of the forum posts so it looks like there is some news. On your news page the last and only post was March 14, 2009. Seriously guys it looks stale and like nothing is going on.

3. Add more Screenshots – There are only 39 screenshots in your gallery and they are very very old. Take a trick from your competitors and allow moderated user uploads. That will give the impression of much more activity and put the work on your community.

4. Where are the Videos!? – Why are there no Darkfall Gameplay Videos or trailer videos on your homepage? People want to see this. Here, throw this YouTube code in and your done:

5. When and How Will People Play Darkfall – It is not clear on the homepage when or how people can access the game. When will you be able to download the game? Where can you buy it? How do you apply? Just give the people some information upfront.

6. Build a Real Contact Page – I get it. You don’t want people to contact you. That is why there is just a small Contact Us link that leads to an email address. How about a contact form to filter out spam. What about press inquiries or partner or advertiser inquiries? Heaven forbid you put up an address or phone number. Make a real contact us page.

7. Actually Build an Aventurine Web Site – If you are going to link to the Adventurine Site then you need to actually build a site there. There are 2 images, a contact email, and a jobs link with no jobs. Minimalistic is an understatement.

8. Ever Hear of a Little Thing Called Search Engine Optimization? – As far as I can tell there is no Search Engine Optimization on the Dark Fall site. One major problem is most of the text is images so SEO wouldn’t really help anyways. Put in some text and do some Search Engine Optimization. I mean your title is only “Darkfall Online” and there are no keywords or description in the code at all. Wouldn’t you want to rank somewhere for the term “MMORPG” etc?

9. Add Testimonials or Video Testimonials – Why do people like me think your game is great? Can my peers tell me why they love this game? Some testimonials or video testimonials would be lovely.

10. All Your Forums Are Closed to Guests? – Really? All of your forums topics require registration? You should have at least one area where guests can post without registering. Just disable links etc.
