Benefits and Drawbacks of Less or More Time Playing MMOs during an Economic Depression

The economy is really bad. In the past people have turned to forms of entertainment and ways to escape from the depressing financial situation and struggles of life. There are two ways that everyone can go with the struggling economy in terms of participation in MMORPGs. Let’s examine the benefits and drawbacks of each during a down economy.

Struggling Economy Means Two Ways to Go: Less time in Virtual Worlds or More Time in MMOs

What will you do

South Park World of Warcraft Video:

The above video is pretty funny and shows the crew of South Park spending all of their time playing World of Warcraft and ignoring other priorities such as exercise and eating healthy.

Spending More Time Playing MMORPGs during Financial Depression

1. MMOs provide an escape from reality. In the past this has proven a strong reason that people will play more MMO games online during the depression.

2. MMORPG games such as World of Warcraft are very addicting and people tend to turn to addictions including these types of games, drugs, alcohol, sleep, tv, etc so it is likely to hold true.

3. You can have no money in real life but in the virtual world you can farm gold and make money and spend it. In the real world people may stop spending entirely.

4. Connect with friends and family online in a fun and entertaining way that is relatively low cost.

World of Warcraft Raid Video:

The above video shows a large raiding party having fun and working together playing WoW in the Black Wing Lair.

Spending Less Time Playing MMOs during the Economic Crisis

1. Now is not the time to ignore your problems and your bills by retreating into a virtual world. Get out of debt.

2. You may need to work two jobs and not have time for online gaming.

3. People will need to reduce their expenses and high speed internet and a monthly game subscription may be among those things that need to go.

4. With the problems facing the world families will need to come together and support each other not seek seclusion online.

Which approach will you take in regards to spending more time or less time playing an MMO if another Great Depression hits us from this current economic crisis?
