We have written before that the Aion Online Tower of Eternity Beta Test begins on June 5th.
Beta keys have started going out and more and more are downloading the Aion Online Beta Client from the NCsoft web site. The problem is that it takes a very long time to download the 5.4 Gigabite client file, update, and patch everything.
We have seen this problem before very recently with the Slow Runes of Magic download and installation process.
Although I do have to admit the annimation on the United States Aion Beta Login Screen is pretty cool.

We are talking hours and not just because of the large file size. This version of the client will not work for future beta tests and is available for the Windows PC only. You had also better hope that the game does not instruct you to update your Direct X drivers (as it does for some) cause that will take even longer.

kinda disappointed, hours to install, the game wont even start up properly…it went to some hack…downloader prevention then blue screened me.. twice.anyone having the same problems…i know tomrrow will be the last day for the first beta

When I try to download the client after 6 hours it gets to 100% then sits there for a couple minutes and starts over! when I go and check the installation folder everything I just downloaded was erased… and now I play the waiting game :/

I’ve had more problems than play time. After finaly getting the game to start ( after alowing it to rape my virus software) all went fine for a while. Got on played up to the asention quest and logged off to get some rl things done. When I tried to relog…nada, freezes, wierd black screens, can’t log off, can’t even force the game off with task manager. The game looked real good but its not worth it so far. The last half of the beta is lost to me…can’t go thru this again. I’ll play if the bugs are ironed out but won’t consider it for free if this continues

This game is has pissed me off to the max, it is so slow downloading and reset on me after a whole day’s worth of downloading. I decided to download it through bittorrent because i thought it would be faster, it was, but it still took another day and it turned out to be the Korean version, i think. Awesome! The guy that made the file couldn’t have specified in the name or something that it was the Korean version? Screw this Beta, I hate this game already and i haven’t even played yet! I feel really cheated how about you guys?

I finaly got the Beta loaded….by, in effect, shuting down most virus options. The game is fantastic!!!
Some real concerns about Gameguard tho. It pretty much takes the system over, acting like a super strict virus program. While this may or may not offer any real protection there is a disconcerting amount of files that seem to have no purpose. If possible, try it on a pc that will run the game but doesn’t have alot of personal info on it. Even if the system is ‘safe” ( an argument I have had made to me) it cuts down on the number of targets ( dif virus programs) a hacker has to go after. Hack Gameguard and its in. I seriously doubt gameguard is better than any of the main virus progs.
It seems that more than a few gaming companies are choosing this route which may protect them but certainly doesn’t do potential customers any favors. Gameguard has been hacked several time already.
The system I am using is a quick throw together of parts that were available and while this isn’t an option everyone has it is the safest. Beta loads will still be long because its just tooo much data to download quickly. The game itselve, when available will download in a reasonable time from disk.

Yes, it takes a long time. It would have been nice if NCsoft would have just included a disk with the beta on it when you reserved it at a retail store. I finally got it downloaded, though, and after a whole whopping hour and a half of playing the beta closed and i have to wait another two weeks to play. Yeah! But it is a pretty good game and i can’t wait to actual put some serious time into it.

If you are getting that “error 114″ or whatever it is, i’ve had this problem, too, when i tried to download it to my laptop. I think what has happened is for some unknown, stupid-ass, time-consuming, annoying reason the file was not downloaded properly. so get ready to start over after deleting everything you downloaded, unless someone has found a better way to fix the error.
And if you guys read my last comment about how i finally got it, well, guess what. Two days before this last beta, my hard drive went out on me.
GOD DOES NOT WANT US TO PLAY THIS GAME! That is the conclusion i have come to, because i have had so many things screw it up for me.

Wow, and I thought I had it bad.But after reading these other testimonials I feel a little bit better about my situation. I waited about 12 hours for the download and then it wanted to updated DirectX. I thought, ‘ok, not a problem’. It was a big problem. After downloading that and waiting for it to hit the glorious 100% mark, I get this message:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified executable is not a valid Win32 application.
I do not claim to be computer/tech savvy in the least, and I have no idea what this message means or how to remedy it. Any thoughts/solutions?

So i finally figured out how to fix everything. It came to me while i was building a new computer because my old fell apart two days before the last beta. The solution is simple…blood sacrifice. while building my computer i cut my finger on a piece of metal inside my new tower, bad. i bleed all over the place and had to get stitches, but after that i got my computer fixed (no problems) and i re-downloaded Aion at like 300 kb/s. The curse is lifted! Now if NCSoft would just open up the beta, i’d be all set. And as for that new error message someone on here got….i have now clue. Try bleeding on your motherboard or sacrifice a chicken on your keyboard.

I was editing some video while this game was downloading in the background, and I THINK I minimized it … but when I gave the thing back to my friend, the window was gone. After 5 tries of DL I got tired of seeing 14%, 19% or even 38% for 4 days straight. I decided to just stop loading it and wait patiently for the game on the 22nd. Becuase it’s freaking ridiculous. So yeah I will go back to playing WoW until the 22nd and then I will install it with a cd.

For those of you first time NCsoft gamers. These slow & frustrating downloads are nothing new. NCsoft is notorious for their highly complicated updating/patching, gameguard issues and (my favorite) completely non-responsive and unhelpful. You won’t find any official instructions, hints or even a riddles on how to download within a decent amount of time. Welcome to NCsoft. =)

Okay, three ways I have attempted to download this and none of them will work out in the end.
1. Via torrents – the speed is 3kb/s – which mean sit would take YEARS for it to make it here eventually (an we are still talking about a pack 10Gb sized)
2. So, I got the Preorder thingy and it sent me to some special downloading option. Well, this was, at first, the 5Gb version, 2 days it downloaded… At the very end it said that an error has occurred. Nothing was there and I couldn’t do anything with some stupid corrupted file 5Gb…
3. Fileplanet, yay… another 10GB… So I managed to download the file. 100%
Winrar says… Unexpected end of archive.
The archive is either in unknown format or damaged…
So i dunno… Are these signs for me giving up trying to get this or what? I’m slowly getting pssed as the 6th is really close now…

I downloaded the file and it said corrupt file when i opened it with winrar. Then i opened it with Windows Explorer (in Win7) and extracted it that way. It installed without any problems.
In winrar it showed up as 4.5 gig and in exlorer it showed the entire 9+ gigs.

It is good, but it’s not a brand new game, it’s been out in Korea for a year, and this isn’t a new gaming company, so they should have been better prepared and the support is shit. I built my computer myself and i only got the game to work because i was very persistent. A customer shouldn’t really need to be that persistent. However, like I said, it is good, so to the people who are super pissed off, give it another shot when it comes out and you can install it from a disk.

ok…so i brought this game online on the sep 22 with NC soft download…been downloading for 1 and a half day…after a long day at work. i rush home getting ready to play game…keep in mind within those time i been closing and reopening my download window because NCsoft said it’ll continue and so it did…well got home found out its on 98 percent about 30 min to finish i notice the download speed was only 40-60 kbs…i’m using a router so i decided to switch direct to the modern for a faster speed…came back to the room and readed….connection..connection…0%…0% downloading…… WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF………..???? man wat a Freaky day……….??????try rerouting the modern restarting computer and got nothing….so its now on 0% and i had to wait another two freaky day….BullSh*t….

I bought the game at gamestop and I can’t tell if it’s actually downloading from the disk. The reason being i never inserted disk 2 and it got to one hundred percent. I’m confused with this because off of a disk it usually goes straight to installion but i needed to download the game which took 2 days and i never inserted disk 2. After get to 100% it said I needed to update my direct X which i did and that was done and i pressed play and it keeps telling me to update it again. Do i need to be the admin.
When i got city of heroes and villians it didn’t download with this amount of slowness and i’m using the same computer.
My main question is if i’m actually instally the disk because i inserted the disk and went to the website put download pc client, but i can’t tell. Also is there a way to get past that directX thing
