In an earlier post in March I asked Is the Stargate Worlds MMORPG Dead?.
This followed financial problems, legal problems, and delays for Cheyenne Mountain. The answer? Almost certainly yes.
Although no official word on the death has been released, Gateworld, the mekka for Stargate fans interviewed executive producer Brad Wright a few days ago about the progress of the Stargate Worlds massively multiplayer online role playing game. His response can be summed up in one word. “Shame”. Yes Wright used the word “shame” 3 times in three sentences.
“It’s a shame. If it doesn’t happen — and, let’s be honest, it should be happening now if it was happening. It’s a shame. It’s a terrible shame.”
Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has not updated their news section of their web site since April 15, 2008. In the most recent post on the Stargate Worlds Community site the developers responded that “…the lights here are still on and the development team is working hard every day to get this game built.” and “It’s true that the production of Stargate Worlds has been significantly impacted by the greatest worldwide economic downturn in decades, but we are still raising enough money from angel investors to keep the dev team working.”
Gateworld recently ran this post at what seemed to be the demand of CME Senior Marketing Manager Kevin Balentine emphasizing that they are still working but need new investors. But it seemed a half hearted attempt.
Stargate Worlds Trailer Video:
This spells doom for Cheyenne Mountain and the Stargate Worlds MMORPG. The perfect time to launch the game would have been at the finale of Stargate SG1 or even the finale of Battlestar Galactica. That time is long since gone.
