Otherland MMO: Lawnmower Man Meets Johnny Pneumonic

The New Otherland Massively Multiplayer Online game is being created based on the science fisction serires by Tad Williams. Otherland is developed by DTP Entertainment and Real U.

Each player experiences their own unique story with the game dynamically changing. Avatars start in Lambda Mall and explore this virtual shopping and theme zone filled with entertainment. Outside of the Lambda Mall you are no longer protected by the no combat safe zone.

Transportation is by tubes and by surfing connecting lines. This is a truly spacial world and a Virtual Reality world set in the near future.

There is a lot centering around the look of your avatar which is based on your actions. Death and rebirth create a confusing mash of avatar appearance, abilities, and gameplay.

Griefing of newbies has been disabled by a timeline that prevents experienced players from targeting newer ones.

This is a physical thinking mental game that may seem a little confusing. Quests and exploration play a major role

.

A Virtual currency will exist and artifacts and money should play a part. When a player dies objects can be taken from them and sold at the Mars black market. Otherland MMO is still a way out and will not launch for awhile. The tentative release date is 2010.

    Read the books !…
I am at 2/3 of them. It is thousand of pages though…
You will discover that this game can have an incredible background.
It is obvious that this game can NOT replicate all environments, but it has a potential way bigger than The Reference in mmo, i.e. Blizzard’s World of Warcraft…

    What a challenge for DTP/Real U !!!

What is very nice to know is that Tad William, the author, follows up this project very closely.

    Definitely something to bookmark…

Well if they are going to make the areas outside of Lamda Mall weaps hot, then it’s for sure not going to be like any game out now! I’ve read the Otherland series and I think that with RealU actually working WITH Tad Williams, then the game should really reflect the spirit of the books, which is going to be Chizz to rip a word from the series.
