We have written many times about the Star Wars The Old Republic massively multiplayer online role playing game.
Yesterday we received confirmation that the SWTOR MMORPG release date will be delayed from October 2010 until the Spring of 2011. This is not a good sign. Is this because the Star Trek Online MMORPG is already way ahead of the game with a release date of February 2, 2010? Yes. Fear of the competition and the same target audience.
Hopefully BioWare and LucasArts will use the delay to improve the terrible graphics of SWTOR.
Check out the below high defitition trailer.

WTF its not released till 2011 omg fuck bioware
Apr 1, 2010 at 16:10:59
Star Trek online is a shitty online game trying to compete with star wars, star wars has not fear from shit trek. Star wars will have fully voice dialog, millions of star wars fans, and awesome graphics, star trek will suck ass.
Apr 1, 2010 at 16:58:13
You my friend have an obsession with the human anus and everything that comes out of it…………………
Apr 12, 2010 at 21:26:20
THAT TOTALLY CRAP OMG HURRY UP PLEASE WOW IS BORING
Apr 25, 2010 at 15:46:25
STO sucks , ccombat is like wow or anby game , hit then other person hits , then opponent hits and etc swtor has alot of things to do like grenades , airstrikes , and mele vs mele is diffrent , sowrds clash together , its fast paced , and the force is used too , what im tryng to say is that STO will be just like any other mmo , only a scifi with ok graphics and swtor will be a completely diffrent mmorpg , its just take about 5 months more , wow…
May 17, 2010 at 14:49:19
STO? Competition? Last time I checked there has been a long-time rivalry between ST/SW fans dating back to the 70′s. A rivalry that makes many red-faced and livid might I add. It’s a stretch of the imagination for a handful of fans from one particular group to even dabble in the others universe let alone cause real competition.
May 22, 2010 at 07:08:20
ITS NOT RUNNING FOR STO!!!! if anything its trying to not be thrown under the bus from the new WoW expansion, Cataclysm.
Jun 16, 2010 at 00:29:33
Cataclysm is going to suck hard. They scrapped the entire new promised character customization from the expansion making the new crafting profession suck at the same time. Lame.
Jun 16, 2010 at 16:57:38
I’m excited about SW: TOR and (not asking about opinions about my opinion) not sure if i want to continue WOW cause this game looks pretty sweet. One thing though is if you have to pay for SW: TOR like WOW, if you do, am not happy of what the cost MIGHT cost
Jun 17, 2010 at 00:47:21
First of all Star Trek online is a terrible game period. Second, the graphics DO NOT determine whether a game is good or not (example: World of Warcraft, Star Wars KOTOR, Diablo etc.) Also i do not want to here another damn complaint about it should be KOTOR 3 and not an mmo. Fact: This game will feature more content and lore than any other Bioware game combined. The reason they are taking so long in making the game… well that should be obvious. WoW is gonna have some serious competition.
Jun 22, 2010 at 14:41:15
May be my grandkids will be able to play it!
Jul 4, 2010 at 16:00:10
This game is going to destroy STO.WoW might not be able to compete.
Jul 5, 2010 at 06:15:09
It comes out on March 25th of 2011 now. More time to wait :S
So long as they keep improving the game in the time i don’t mind so long as it will be more of an experience for us to play. I hope they will improve the graphics vastly but if they don’t fair enough because just look at world of warcraft, its done well enough with bad graphics for this time and age.
Aug 10, 2010 at 15:54:32
Never under estimate the resilience of fanatic Trekkies
Aug 20, 2010 at 02:56:09
Imma seriously make a Sith dat would be awesome
Aug 22, 2010 at 15:46:17
stupid star trek
Aug 25, 2010 at 07:54:02
I look forward to the game coming out. I’m afraid to say that most MMO’s haven’t touched WoW. I don’t play WoW but everyone always says that this “next” MMO will ruin WoW and it hasn’t yet happened. I believe WoW is a first door for those entering the MMO world so it will probably be around for some time. Saything that I played wow for a trail period and was bored, so I hope SWTOR is nothing like it and will be in line to purchase it when it comes out!
Aug 25, 2010 at 07:56:15
As for STO? I neither know nor care. I love the movies and television shows but unless the MMO had it so I could shoot Captain Kirk over and over in the head then I’m not interested xD
Aug 26, 2010 at 08:38:13
guy, WoW is the best game ever, but SWTOR might be the better, star trek sucks
Aug 30, 2010 at 21:13:14
STO is crap and I seriously doubt anyone at Bioware is worried about any competition from it. Bioware delays games sometimes, it’s not that suprising, but it’s alright when they do because unlike Vanguard, DDO, Lord of the Rings and countless others they actually come out with polished games. I figure if they delay the release it just means they wanna make sure it’s finished, and who’s gonna complain about that?
Aug 30, 2010 at 21:16:34
I’d also like to point out that most MMOs aren’t all that impressive graphically, it allows for a larger target audience. Less impressive graphics means less processing power for expansive areas, and therefore people don’t have to have the best PC on the market to play.
Aug 30, 2010 at 23:35:42
@Seth
Thats just an excuse to make games that look bad……
Sep 12, 2010 at 16:23:02
WoW sucks period it got lame after burning crusade and
SWTOR will make WoW look like crap
Sep 15, 2010 at 10:38:12
@reeper I agree, WoW went downhill quick right around the release of BC and a little before, they switched their target audience from the previously fairly small MMO customer base, to the new comers to the genre that were flocking to WoW in the thousands, in doing so they made it a simple, dull game, in which anyone who has the TIME to play can master it.
Sep 15, 2010 at 15:18:45
WoW sucks balls and the developers of SWTOR suck for not releasing the game till spring 2011. they should stop being assholes and just put the game out already
Sep 27, 2010 at 10:14:59
star trek online… was a disaster….
SWtor was never going to be released in 2010. and while i’m excited to play it. it does still need some polish.
the ghost of SWG waits in a dank cave …which swtor must best to be anything more than another cheap franchise mmo that rapes its fan base for $60 box cost, and 3 mo initial subscription fees
Sep 30, 2010 at 09:56:33
its on october
Oct 5, 2010 at 05:21:21
I have played Star Trek online, I liked it, but it’s only a game i have played to fill the void whilst waiting for SWTOR. I think many of the Star Trek players are doing the same thing. TBH only the die hard fans of star trek will continue to play when SWTOR is released. I have waited and waited for this game to be released, another few months wont hurt, especially if Bioware are making sure that everything runs perfectly and that there are no F*** ups on release. Too many games that have been released recently have an “unfinished” feel to them and are full of bugs and glitches, if this extra wait means we have a better game to play then so be it!
To Bioware: take your time, make this game as perfect prior to release as possible.
Oct 7, 2010 at 04:40:55
hew….well all of us star wars comuniy people await this game it should worth the time to wait because its a too much promissing game…I played BETTA game and it was just awesome I am pretty sure that it is going tobe like that and in full…
Nov 13, 2010 at 18:56:26
WoW? The best game ever? That’s laughable. It was a great game at one point. Before any expansions hit, now it’s just a mockery of what it used to be. The Old Republic will blow it out of the water though.
Dec 9, 2010 at 01:19:43
I dont know why you complain so much about this game taking time to make…
MMO’s take time, especially good ones, World of Warcraft took several years.. Swotor hasnt taken that long actually, its been kinda fast since they announced the site, stop whining bitches
Dec 10, 2010 at 16:06:54
Well, i didnt read all the comments, but my two cents is that there taking the right time they need in order to develop a better starting experience for all of us who will jump on SWTOR. why release it early when they clearly arent ready just cuz some people cry like little pussies? you know whats funny, even if they did release it early, they’re would be more bugs obviously, and you faggots would complain about that to. swtor will be amazing competetion for WoW. And star trek i tried out for atleast 5 months, rofl you got to be kidding me. star trek doesnt even match up to wow or swtor. ofcourse for you trekky fans out there you can argue. but ratings dont lie. anyway. in short words. stop crying, be patient, st sucks, swtor rocks, and wow rocks to. so go find your tampons and stfu.
Dec 10, 2010 at 17:07:41
Remembering that good things take time. I would love for it to come out in 2010, but that is just not realistic. There is a massive amount of work to be done on this project, and even when they bring it out there will be bugs needing to be fixed etc. Is it that hard to learn to wait for good things? I am hanging out to play it but come on. Leaving getting angry about it isnt going to solve anything. And Why is it a bad sign? Doesnt it show they are improving more of the kinks and adding more content for a more thrilling experience? Seems this is all about elephant hurling without giving a real reason as to why it something is “not a good sign”
Dec 11, 2010 at 02:03:11
I have Finished both Kotor game light, grey and dark and all I have to say is that it always needed to be multi-player, I would be happy if they just made a third multi-player Kotor, it also has to be finished, unlike Kotor 2 which is so unfinished it makes me cry.
Dec 12, 2010 at 16:05:19
@ Admin
You’re welcome to believe that it’s just an excuse for developers to make games that look bad, however, I’ve been the guy with a computer that couldn’t run incredible games and appreciated the fact that I could still try out the MMOs I wanted to play. I also had a great computer when LOTRO came out an was able to convince friends who didn’t have good computers to play, which was good because otherwise it wouldn’t have held my attention for more than a few weeks. So, regardless of the fact that they could make them look better there are plenty who appreciate being able to play woithout a top of the line PC and it undoubtedly does increase the number of people able to play the game.
Dec 15, 2010 at 20:19:31
First off anyone who doubts that STO is a good game or it’s depth either knows nothing about MMO’s and games in general, or is so blinded by the fact that they only like Star Wars “and thats all fine and dandy as u can like or dislike what ever u want” that they deny the truth of the matter and thats its a well put together game with amazing graphics, and its battle system, along with PVP and create ur own content has sold its name well and is here to stay along with reduced prices of the games and user friendlyness puts it well above the mark of most MMO”S, but here is my point Yeah i like star wars, and yeah i like Star Trek, and i know that just the fact the SWTOR being fully voiced will make it a better game, but doubting STO or it’s worth as a game is just foolish!!
Dec 22, 2010 at 07:59:31
why is every one crying so much for swtor to come out i just look at what i want and then wait patiently wow has gone kinda down i still like it its pretty fun so everyone that is so impatient they cant shut up for it i got one thing go suck it all up
Dec 25, 2010 at 08:44:15
this article hits on the graphics.. its in the process of being created, they aren’t going to show the really good stuff yet. and look at other mmo’s. they’re trying to get a fantasy style with a side of realism in the graphics. I think for an mmo the graphics are fine, that way if people have shit computers they can still join the game. aka, larger amount of people playing, more people on the servers to raid/pvp with and in general make the game a better experience.
Dec 25, 2010 at 11:19:25
Take as long as you need BIOWARE. Please, because if there is one moment where I find myself upset with the game. I’m going to be upset. So take your time and make sure space doesn’t suck a$$… Yes, I play SWG.
Jan 1, 2011 at 14:34:43
Dude i freakin love star wars and star treck or whatever can seriously shove themselves tht game is for pricks and swtor would and will kick its ass but WOW is a force to be recond with very stable for such a long period of time but eventualy WOW will fall.
DEATH TO STAR TRECK
Jan 3, 2011 at 14:13:03
Yes wow will inevitably fall, but Blizz is pretty good at figuring out what will keep people coming back and paying. Say what you want about the game but you cannot argue with the sheer number of players is has. And Cataclysm was such a huge reset of the game it is almost more a sequel than an expansion. Nevertheless, I will drop WoW like a bad habit when swtor comes out. Then it will be up to BioWare to keep me playing swtor and I have faith they will.
Jan 4, 2011 at 12:00:28
swtor looks great the graphics arent gona be like call od duty they will probably be the same as wow but its not going to compete with wow cause in swtor its mainly an pve type of game instead of wow where they mainly focus on pvp but i think its going to be good they have spent 5 years on it..
Jan 15, 2011 at 01:13:07
1. graphics are crappy to allow for ppl with crappy computers to play, u think bioware wud make a game with crap graphics for no reason, look at me1 and me2 peopl!
2.too many mmo’s cumin out at the same time, so they change release date, its to profit more from swtor, im not saying bioware are cheap guys that want muny, because they got bought by ea and r still humble, its just a simple buisness thing any1 in ther position wud do
Jan 16, 2011 at 15:17:38
i think swtor is going to be a new experience for players because of the voice your character has and the choices you mkae decide everything for instance i was on youtube watchinvidsabout it and instead of choosing to save the captain he killed him and that will change many things later on such as 1. a new captain 2.diffrent quests 3. diffrent quests meen it has a wave affect 4 who your character will meet after you are done with that line of quests 5. the rewards you get from quests 6.whether or not u choose sith or republic and many other things and to the person who said there more pve if u play swg theres actualy alot of pvp (swg is no where near as good as swtor just an example
Jan 16, 2011 at 23:56:39
Of all the games I have and will play, Bioware makes the best.
I have complete faith that they will take these few extra months to make the game BETTER than i’m sure it already is.
Jan 24, 2011 at 20:18:37
Running from Star Trek Online? You have GOT to be kidding. Star Trek Online is nothing like Star Trek. It’s a disgrace to the franchise. SWTOR is moving the release date to 2011 so it can please the Star Wars fans and so it WON’T be as bad as Star Trek online.
Feb 4, 2011 at 20:41:35
Hey!!! How about a BSG or B5 MMO as long as we are getting all torquey about which one is or will be the best?!?! It’s fantasy people and it’s meant to be fun and entertaining depending on what you are looking for. Let’s not take ourselves too seriously. I am a fan of both SW and ST and they both have their place. Neither one is meant for everyone and I don’t think they should try to be. This was the problem with SWG when they dumbed it down for mass appeal. I like STO and while there are improvements to be made, I don’t want to appeal to everyone! It is genre specific and if you don’t like it then don’t buy it thinking you’re going to get something different. TOR fans should consider this…good in a trailer and good in real life are 2 different things or have you forgotten Episode 1 and 2. I am looking forward to TOR and hope it’s everything that Galaxies was suppose to be before it was raped, pillaged and left for dead.
Feb 11, 2011 at 07:10:45
Alright, personally rather have a game come out when its ready rather than when we want it. Ive been keeping up to date on the newest modifications and all I can say is what is this white stuff thats soaking my pants? Graphics are perfect guess this guy was watching the alpha intro for the bounty hunter. MY GOD THATS WHY ITS ALPHA. It looks alot like Kotor2 graphics only better which to say the least is what this genre needs. Im sick of all the pretty games that run like crap and have no desire for great character development and storyline. Every class has its own storyline its like playing kotor2 with every class every choice matters on your treck with the dark/light side. All classes are even and beautiful. And they took a tip from RIFT and made their character creation alot like theirs in terms of choice. I can play a bounty hunter thats a tank or whip out the really special gadgets and cause some serious dps. Fully voiced is sweet as well I mean every person I talk to every last one will have a voice will have a soul and that in itself makes the game more enjoyable. Have you seen the space combat? imagine star fox on crack. Finally when I want to craft its not a chore i can have my crewmates do it and they can also craft as well even when Im not logged on. Companions that follow you are enhanced pets every class is a pet class and each compaion is a detailed and deep character with its own thoughts and ideas. I know Im going on and on but this game has it all folks I wouldnt mind paying 20-30 bucks a month to play this bioware deserves my money unlike all the other coperate shit companys out there to deliver a low quality product.
Feb 11, 2011 at 11:56:38
Ok WTF, Star wars is way better than Star Trek, and yes they have been competing since the 70s. But seriously, using this time to improve on the graphics is a good idea, Ive seen bad comments about SW:TOR, everyone hates it, but me I love it!
Star trek will fall for my opinion, the graphics on it is the worst Ive seen yet. Its worse than WoW and SWG NGE Combined.
Overall, SW:TOR beats WoW and Star Trek.
Feb 12, 2011 at 15:23:04
Really? Running from Star Trek Online? STO I cannot even really call a mmo..it’s a disgrace..and really..what do you expect. Cryptic Studios made it. I mean they copied even the same chat system. While playing I could contact My peeps from Champions since they use the exact same chat server.
Come on..
Feb 15, 2011 at 08:05:44
Look wow will eventually fall but star trek is terrible and everyone thinks that swtor is going to be better yea maybe a couple hundred will go to swtor from wow but the will still be thousands or even millions on wow but seriously wow is so much better
Feb 21, 2011 at 15:53:34
better no, bigger yes, wow has alot of history and smooth game play but right now its nothing more than a grind…will this be a wow killer most likely not but it will definatly be around when wow is dead which by the way isnt to far off. 3 more expansions and they are letting it go
Feb 22, 2011 at 23:51:28
Star trek as a franchise has like 5000 hours of shows and movies compared to star wars’ 12 hours (that animation shet dont count). Lol at the “star trek sucks” chat. Go watch star trek and play STO, it’ll take you 3 years to watch all the episodes alone. Also STO doesn’t suck, TOR won’t ever be released, ewoks are dumb, 2012 is real
Feb 23, 2011 at 01:07:12
wow is only good because its been running so long. they have had plenty of time to tweek things and fix errors.try playing it for 3 yrs or more. its old news. even now the stam over all is stacked too high. it takes too damn long to kill someone. look at dps gear… the stam is aprox double the dps stat depending on what class u r playing. because of this pvp combat almost never ends. also in order to like STO u either have to be extremely easily amused, hardcore ST fan or both. i take pride in knowing what is actually good and what is not. id have way more fun playing snake or pacman.
Feb 24, 2011 at 11:21:06
@carl branananalewski
The Star Wars Movies may only have 12 hours but the expanded universe is actually as big if not bigger than Star Trek. There are the games, KotOR series, Dark Forces and Jedi Knight series. The Old Republic also has comic books which go even deeper into the times before Revan and other clone wars comics as well as stories from after Luke’s time. There are also tons of books from all eras, post Return of the Jedi up until Luke and Han are old men, books between all the movies and pre-Phantom Menace as far back as the life of Darth Bane. Just because you’ve only seen the movies and don’t like the animated stuff doesn’t mean it’s not a fleshed out fiction. Star Trek is great too but it never felt as deep to me, Star Wars has the depth of 30,000 years of history that, for me at least, sort of brings the whole thing to life.
Feb 24, 2011 at 15:07:37
@Mega Troll
I both beta’d STO and played it. Please give me a break. That game was simply rushed. Pure and simple in the same way Cryptic studios does with all their games. They rush to turn out alpha and then spend the next 2 years updating to make better. STO is a MMO in the barest of terms. Graphics means nothing compared to game play. Crafting was ridiculous, much like Cryptic’s Champions. Sorry but your bias is silly at best
Feb 25, 2011 at 03:37:32
Star Trek was an interesting series. i enjoyed it for a while but the game STO was so broken and half-ass. i could come up with something better with my eyes closed and my hands tied behind my back. Star Wars mmo based off of STKOTOR was something i had been dreaming of since the first kotor came out. (something far greater than SW galaxies or STO)
Mar 4, 2011 at 09:22:31
Well when does it comee out i want a date ive searched for a year on the web for the exact date and nothing so please help tell me a exact date.
Mar 7, 2011 at 14:00:08
Bioware state on their site if you go look that it is goign to be released after 31st March. This means anytime from 1st April up until the end of the world. Oh well, just sit back and wait and get on the forums
enjoy.
Mar 9, 2011 at 04:54:03
i want to play swtor now
Mar 14, 2011 at 20:25:31
I HIGHLY doubt they are running from WoW’s expansion or STO. STO looks horrible and like some guy said earlier, the ST and SW fans are totally different. There is no way that people who truly love SW are going to play STO over SWTOR!! I am a HUGE SW fan and even though I loved the ST:Voyager serie, it certainly doesn’t mean I’d pick STO over SWTOR!!
I can’t wait to make a Jedi and kick some Sith ass!!
Mar 14, 2011 at 20:27:09
Oh yeah, the only reason they are probably postponing the release date is because the game is taking more time than expected to finish due to its HUGE awesomeness that it is going to be!!:D
This game is going to be so amazing that they are making sure that everything is perfect before they crush the gaming industry!! I play Eve Online right now and I plan to quit if SWTOR is as good as it looks:D
Mar 18, 2011 at 17:39:59
With rushed mmo “failures” like STO & FFXIV why do people still get upset when a company says its delayed the launch of its game?
Personally, I’d rather wait a bit longer and be blown away by SWTOR than have it come out too soon and completely bite the big one. Of all the major titles & players coming out with their new games or expansions, I’ve looked forward to this one the most. And I’m willing to wait a bit longer to ensure that its as good as I hope it is.
I was like a 5 year old in a candy store when Final Fantasy XIV online came out last year, only to be horrified at how bad it was. Classic example of a company rushing to launch a game way before they were ready. It wasn’t even really a Beta yet… Final Fantasy XI was my favorite to-date, but the latest online version broke my heart and I even though we can still play for free while Square Enix fixes it, I haven’t had to the heart to return.
DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WITH SWTOR! PLEASE GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME… [somewhere in the world, a fairy dies when a mmo is released before its time. Don't kill the fairies!!!]
Apr 2, 2011 at 04:11:36
I don’t understand why people get so pissed off when a game is delayed. I mean, would you rather play it now and have the unfinished game crash and burn, or would you rather wait longer for them to perfect it and get it just right so you can enjoy it all the more and play it even longer?
Judging from the KotOR series, its going to be amazing, so don’t take them pushing it back as a bad thing, but as a good thing as it gives them more time to polish and perfect it.
They rushed – I think but am not certain – KotOR 2 and look what happened there. It was good, but was likey to glitch and mess up at random times. For me it messed up right after the cute little astromech droid gets zapped by the HK51 near the start on Peragus, and although I found my way around that glitch, it was still annoying.
So don’t get angry and annoyed when they delay it. Even though I’m a Sith to the bone this warrants Jedi words. Patience, young padawan. *Yoda voice*
Just my 2- um, 4 cents ^_^
Apr 7, 2011 at 18:01:02
im a player of wow and its getting totally boring .I cannot wait utnil swtor comes out..the wow world is dead.. nobody is online and they have closed half the servers when catacysim came out.. and the and now you have to be in guild.
