Almost a year ago we wrote about the benefits and drawbacks and widespread belieft that people spend more time playing games and MMORPGs during an Economic Recession. Well that belief has finally been proven wrong. Video Games are not a recession proof industry afterall.

NPD video game sales data reported a 29 percent drop in video game software sales in June in North America. This is on top of a three month in a row decline of video game sales compared to last year.

Of Course When Gamers Have No Money They Will Play Free MMORPGs

It makes complete sense but not for the reasons you think. It is not that people are playing video games less. No it is just that they are making due with the games that they have, borrowing more games from friends, and turning to more Free MMORPGs such as the free-to-play Runes of Magic or Free Realms or the other massively multiplayer online role playing games on our list of the Top 10 Free MMORPGs.
